Big Thanks for Writing 1A!

Hi, Readers! I think this is the last post of my writing 1 blog since the end of my second semester is coming. Now, I am going to share my experiences while I am in writing class.

I spent 6 months in this class and I got some knowledge of writing technicalities. In the last 3 months, I learnt about description and narrative text. Also, we learnt about the time for using question and exclamation marks. Honestly, sometimes I feel that it is difficult when I have to decide whether I should use a period, a coma, or an exclamation mark.

The most interesting unit is when we talked the differences between topic sentence, supporting sentences, and concluding sentence. In this lesson, we got an assignment to write some paragraphs by writing the points in the words map first so that we can include and write easily the topic sentence, supporting sentences, and concluding sentence. “Malang has many unique waterfalls” was my topic. I like my topic as it is related to my interest, travelling. As a result, I enjoyed doing this assignment.

The most difficult unit is narrative. At first, I do not know the difference among recount and narrative text. However, after I know it, I still have a problem. Sometimes, I have no idea so I do not know what I should write. For me, narrative is too complicated, especially when I have to write the introduction of my story. Knowing that we will have narrative as the Final exam’s topic, I am so anxious. I hope, my brain will give a lot of amazing ideas that never been out before. I should get higher score in writing final test so as to get A in my final score, because in the last Mid-test, I did not get a good score.

In writing class, not only knowledge, but I also got a lot of memories with my friends and my lecturer. I want to say thank you for Mr. Taloko, who have taught and given us the important knowledge of writing technicalities. Thank you for my friends, who have made some crazy memories in this class. All of you are completely amazing and insane, guys.  See you in the next semester!

A Woman's Bloody Face on Me!

Usually, I sleep in my cozy room. However, at that night, I wanted to spend my time with my mother because I had a long-tiring day. I decided to sleep in her room and I got my frightening experience there. It occurred a month ago.

My mother is the best mom in the world. If my father works, she can act like a father in home. She always looks after and cares about me, my sister, and my father. Although she is sick, she still makes very delicious food for us. She can do anything, especially all things that the other women can’t do, such as repair some broken stuff in home. She does tiring activity every single day. She has never grumbled. Contrarily, she supports us when we are tired. On the other words, she is the strongest woman in all my life. She is my best friend. She is always there when I need a shoulder to cry on. She is a wonder woman in my reality.

Spending time with her is the most comfortable and the happiest moment for me. Before we sleep, we talked to each other. I told her about my annoying and tiring day. I grumbled all the time through each word that I said. While she was looking at my annoyed face and hearing my complaint, he laughed at me. Then, she gave me some advices and supported me.

Suddenly, her phone rang. She said that her sister gave her an important call. As she was talking with my aunt in her phone, I was waiting for her by staring at the ceiling. Gradually, I closed my eyes since I was too tired. I did not see anything at the first several seconds but unexpectedly a woman’s bloody face appeared in front of my face. Can you imagine how shocking is it? I wanted to scream. I have tried many times but I could not.

“Oh My, I hate this nightmare. Calm down, it is just a nightmare. What you need to do is open your eyes and this annoying nightmare will disappear.” I always speak inwardly when I have a nightmare. Usually, I will wake up after saying those words.

I wanted to open my eyes and I could not. I could not move my body too. Consequently, I was very frightened and I wanted to cry. The worst that I found I could not breathe well. I felt that my neck was very tense. I did not know what to do. I strongly tried to wake up because I need to breathe. On the other hand, the woman was still looking at me. Eventually I could open my eyes. My mouth opened when I woke up. My jaw was stiff and hurt. I did not know why my mouth opened. I saw my mother finished talking with my aunt.

“I have a nightmare, mom.” I told my mom.

“A nightmare? You have not slept yet but you have had a nightmare? Impossible!”

“Seriously, mom. I slept when you were talking in your phone. I slept about 15 minutes.”

“15 minutes? Are you sure? I only spent 2 minutes to talk with her I have just finished it.”

“Really?”

“Big yes! You have not slept yet. I am sure about my opinion. You only closed your eyes 2 minutes, so it is impossible to have a nightmare.” Said my mom.

I was wondering inwardly, “what happened to me?”

Then, I remember about ‘sleeping paralyzed’ issue, in Indonesia called ‘Tindihan’. It is a condition where there is ‘something invisible’ on your body so you cannot move your body. Prayer is the best solution. Since that time, I was too frightened to sleep alone in my room. As a result, I slept in my mom’s room in a week. Until now, I still remember her bloody face.

A Postcard from Bali

Dear Gaby,

Hi, Gaby! I am in Bali with my sister and her boyfriend now. We went to Bali two days ago and we are staying here for a week. We are really having a good time. We are renting a car so that we can go anywhere. Yesterday, we went to Bajrasandi. It is such a beautiful monument. I saw two couples take their pre-wedding photos there. Then, we went to Tanjung Benoa Beach. We played banana boat and parasailing. We rented a boat and went to Pulau Penyu. After that, we had dinner in Jimbaran Beach. We ate a lot of seafood there. Today, we are going to shop to buy some souvenirs. Do not worry, I will bring you something special. Wait for me!

Your friend,
Osa.

Fashion is My Mood

Hi, Readers! Now, I am going to talk about fashion. What do you think about fashion? For me, fashion is everything. Usually, I wear clothes based on my mood. If I am too tired, I choose T-shirts and jeans. If I am in a very good mood, I prefer shirts or blouses and jeans or jeans leggings. If I want to go to an event, whether I am in a good mood or in a bad mood, I will wear my best clothes. I am a simple girl and plain is my favorite pattern.

To describe my favorite style, I give a picture as an example. I got it from Instagram that was posted by @rraquel12. I like her style. She is wearing plain grey blouse and black ripped jeans. She is also wearing brown flat-shoes. Even though her style is very simple, it is comfortable and modern. She is wearing some accessories like a brown watch, a key necklace, and a blue bag. In my opinion, her accessories go with her clothes. They are perfect match. She is wearing a hat too. However, I do not like hats. Consequently, I never wear them. Her style is the best style to hang out.

That is all about my favorite style. Would you mind sharing your favorite style? I am so happy if you want to share yours. So, thank you for reading my opinion. Do not forget to leave your comments! See you in the next post.

Journal Entry

Yesterday, March 11, 2016, was the last meeting for my writing class before we have a mid-term test. We discussed about hobbies and interests. We also talked about gerunds. Gerunds are nouns made from verbs. We learnt how to use gerunds and when we should use it. Besides, our lecturer whose name Mr. Taloko, taught us how to combine words with and, or, but. This unit is very useful for us to improve our writing’s skill. I like the way he teaches us. He always asks us to work in a group. For instance, we described our shoulder partner. It is very interesting. I can enjoyably follow his class, even though we have three credits.
Last week, Mr. Taloko had explained about our final tasks. He said that we had to write two journals and an autobiography which contains 2000 words. Actually, when I heard that terrible news, I did not know what I wanted to write in one week so that I could get two thousand words in my autobiography. I felt depressed. I asked my friends from other classes about those tasks. They said that their lecturer had announced it in the first or second meeting. As a result, they had enough time to do those tasks.
At first, I thought it was not fair for me and all of my classmates. Mr.Taloko just gave us one week to do those final tasks. But yesterday, Mr. Taloko said that we did not have to write all of them. We had to write a journal and an autobiography and he did not give the limit words. I was so happy. It felt like I could breathe well than before. We supposed to post our tasks on Sunday, March 20, 2016 before 00.00. Thank you, sir for your goodness.

It's about Me!

Hi! My name is Clementin Kortisarom Prijambodo, but you can call me Osa. I was born in Surabaya, on October 16th, 1997. I am 18 years-old and I am an Indonesian. I live in Sidoarjo. I live with my nuclear family as the youngest. I have one sister, Octavia Miraclania Prijambodo, who is older than me in five years. Our appearances and characteristics are very different. I also have a super dad and an amazing mom. Vincentius Luluk Prijambodo, who works as a lecturer in Widya Mandala University, is my father. Although he is a busy man, he still gives us his time. On the other hand, my mother, Margaretha Anik Endah, is a house-wife. As a result, I spend a lot of time with her. She knows everything about me, my friends, my college-life and my daily-life. She knows all of my problems even though I do not tell her. When I have a problem, she never gives me the solution. She said if I wanted the solution, I should pray to God to find the answer. She is always there when I need a shoulder to cry on. In other words, my mom is my best friend. My parents are the best parents in the world! I love both of you, mom and dad!

I go to Widya Mandala University and take English Department. I am in second semester. I have found many difficulties in some subjects, such as Listening and Reading, those make me study harder. I wish, I can increase my listening and reading’s skills soon. I have joined in organizations since I was in Junior high school. Now, I am joining in one of Widya Mandala’s organizations, LPM. I joined in dance community in my first semester.

I have some close friends in this university. They are Gaby, Pipit, Ammy, and Tina. We spend our time together. We eat together and we sleep together. Hahahaha... Pipit is the funniest, Ammy is the hottest, Tina is the busiest, Gaby is the smartest, and I am the silliest. They have completed me. With them, I can be the real me, not the fake me. If we are together, we look like a group of children in Kindergarten.

Making craft and travelling are my interest. If I had spent all of my holidays by travelling, my holidays would have been perfect. But, I can not because sometimes my parents do not give me permission for doing that, especially my daddy. For him, I will always be his little daughter, no matter how old I am. Listening to music is my hobby. I like listening to pop and jazz music. My favorite singer is Adam Levine. I love his voice. In my opinion, he is very hot with his muscles and his beard. Oh my God! He is so sexy.

I do not like reading, unlike my family. I prefer watching movies to reading books. I have so many discs of movies. I hate horror or scary movies. I like adventure, romantic and action movies. Besides, I love watching all of Disney movies. I just watch cartoon in TV, such as Masha and the Bear, Curious George, etc.

How about my favorite food? I am the real foodie! Food is my best mood. If I am sad or upset, I always need food. I do not like “petai”, “pare”, and “kikil”. I like spicy and salty food. I used to be coffee and tea addict. But now, I can not eat spicy food and drink coffee or tea because of maag. That is why my mother always gives me infuse water or milk every day.

That is all about me. Thank you for reading. Please kindly leave your comment….

My Pet is A Part of My Family

Hi, Guys! I want to ask you some questions. Do you have a pet or do you like an animal? Then, what type of animal? Is it a dog or a cat or anything else? For your information guys, a pet gives some benefits for us. For instance, you are never lonely because it can be your friend and it also can become your guard. But, you should treat your pet well and responsibly. My favorite pets are dogs and turtles. Now, I am going to describe about my dog.

I have a dog that I got from my older sister’s boyfriend. Its name is Maximus, but I always call it Max. When I was in senior high school, I schooled in Malang and I lived in my aunt’s house with my cousin too. My Mom brought Max to Malang in order to accompany me. Gradually, my little cousin fell in love with it. So, when I back to Surabaya, I left it in there to be my cousin’s friend. Until now, if I go to Malang, I always visit it.

Max is a breed of a Chihuahua and a Pomeranian. It has thick brown fur. I think, as a male dog, Max is beautiful because it has small round black eyes and I always fall in love with its eyes. It has a small nose and a large mouth when it yawns. It also has small ears and a long tail. Although Max is a type of small dog, it is energetic. It likes playing, running, and jumping.  It is a talkative dog with a very loud voice. On the other hand, Max has eating problem. Sometimes, it very likes dog foods. After eating dog foods in several days, it likes human foods, for example meatball, ‘rawon’, and ‘soto’. On the next day, it does not eat anything.

It had some old habits at the time I schooled in Malang. While I was studying, it was sitting in front of my room or it was sleeping in my room. It used to wake me up in the morning.  One Sunday morning, at 5 o’clock, I had not woken up yet. I heard Max’s loud voice, but I ignored it because I had a plan that I wanted wake up at 7 or 8 o’clock. Suddenly, I felt something jumped on my stomach. I woke up shockingly and I realized that it was Max. I was angry with Max. However, I can never stay mad at Max, especially when I see its eyes.

At the first time I met Max, I thought I had a guard. But I was wrong. I am Max’s guard. Max is a fearful dog. It always fears with thunder, lightning, and rain. I do not know why. Max likes playing and licking my hands. If max gets sick, I am so sad and worried it will die. Max becomes more hyperactive than usual in every time I come to visit. Over all, Max is my best friend. Max makes my colorful day. I love you, Max! I miss you so bad! I will visit you soon.

That is all about my lovely dog. I love my pet as a family. That is why I always cry when my pets died, especially when my turtles died last year. I hate animal abuse so much! So, if you do not like animals, do not hurt it. Thank you for reading it. Do not forget to leave a comment, guys! See you in the next posts J
I always fall in love with its eyes
While I was studying, Max was accompanying me by sleeping in my messy room

Surabaya, My Perfect Hometown

Hi, Readers! In my third post, I want to explain about my Hometown, Surabaya. I hope you can enjoy reading it.

First of all, I want to retell the history of Surabaya as known as Heroes City. Why it is called Surabaya? Based on a fable, the word ‘Surabaya’ is from a Shark (in Indonesia: Hiu; Sura) and a Crocodile (in Indonesia: Buaya; Baya) who lived together in Java Sea. They were arrogant and strong. One day, they fought because of food until they died. To remember them, people named the place where they died as Surabaya. How about the history of the name ‘Heroes City’? In November, 10th 1945, there was a big war in Surabaya. Bung Tomo led Surabaya’s teenagers (in Indonesia: arek-arek Suroboyo) to resist foreign invaders and keep Indonesia’s independence. Many people of them, who became heroes for Surabaya, died in that war. As a result, Indonesia celebrates Heroes Day in November, 10th and that’s why people have known Surabaya as Heroes City.

Surabaya, which is the capital city of Java East, is the second biggest city in Indonesia after Jakarta. It is divided by five areas; Central Surabaya, North Surabaya, East Surabaya, South Surabaya, and West Surabaya. Usually, its temperature is 32 degrees Celsius, so it is not cool city. On the other hand, Surabaya is crowded and modern city with busy people everyday. The view of Surabaya is different from Malang, because we can not see mountains. However, we can see many modern architecture buildings and some colonial architecture buildings. It also has Asian architecture buildings in Chinatown.

Surabaya, where I was born, has some popular monuments and buildings, such as Shark and Crocodile monument, Heroes obelisk, Tunjungan Plaza mall, Surabaya’s zoo and Suramadu bridge that connected Surabaya and Madura. Besides Tunjungan Plaza mall, people can find many other malls in here. For instance, City of Tomorrow, Royal Plaza, Galaxy Mall, Marvel City, EastCoast Center, Grand City Surabaya, Ciputra World, etc. Surabaya also provides gorgeous parks, like ‘Ekowisata Mangrove’, ‘Kebun Bibit’, ‘Taman Hiburan Remaja (THR)’, and the others parks. The most popular park is Bungkul Park, which has a routine event in Sundays morning, Car Free Day.

How about the food? Surabaya has three special foods. For example, ‘Rujak Cingur’, ‘Lontong Balap’, and ‘Pecel Semanggi’. We can try lots of food in Food Festival, which is located in Pakuwon. Surabaya has salty and spicy food because the people prefer it than sweet food.

Last, about the transportation of Surabaya. Usually, people go by car, motorcycle, bicycle, bus, train, plan, or ship. Surabaya provides bus station, such as Bungurasih and Bratang. Also, train station, Juanda International Airport, and Tanjung Perak Port.

I love Surabaya very much, because it has many malls so that I can go shopping anytime. For me, Surabaya is the best place to spend our day with lots of delicious food. How perfect it is.

Funny Story

Based on our writing class, we learnt about funny stories in chapter two. Now, I will share a funny story. I am difficult to remember my own story. As a result, I will write about my friend’s story. I hope it can be funny for you.

Two years ago, I had a day trip with my friends. First, we went to Balekambang beach and then Kondang Merak Beach which are located in Malang Selatan. We were in seven, so we rented a car to go there. I was excited about this trip because it was the first time for us to spend our day in beach together. In that time, the beaches are not too crowded as usual. As results, we could do a lot of activities comfortably, like we made a video about our journey, took photos, sang together, and played volleyball.

At the afternoon, before going back to home, we cleaned our hands and legs. Suddenly, I had an idea. I took a bottle and filled it with water form a bathroom in there. I used it to wash my foot. If I had not washed my foot, it would have been dirty again because of the sand beach that I got when I walked out from the bathroom. I kept the rest of the water in my bag which I put in baggage car.

When we were in our way to home, one of my friends, whose name Iwan, asked for my drink, “Osa, can I ask for your drink?”

While I was playing my cellphone, I answered, “Yes Wan, I still have it. You can take it from my bag in the baggage car.”

After that, we arrived in the car rental to give the car back. We took all of our things out from the baggage and at the same time, I realized that my bottle with the water from the beach was empty. I was confused and asked to myself, “Where the rest of my water? I remembered that I kept it.”

“Wan, do you drink my water?” I asked Iwan quickly.

“Yes, why?” He replied.

“You drank it from my Tupperware, right?” I hoped he said yes, but not.

He answered, “No, I did not drink from your Tupperware. I drank it from your bottle.”

I was shocked. In the other hand, I could not hold my laugh. “Why do you laugh?” my other friends asked. “That is not my drink water. It is the water that I took from the bathroom in the beach. He should drink my water from my Tupperware and I forgot to tell Iwan about it.” I explained regretfully. I thought Iwan would be angry. In the fact, he was not. After they had heard it, they laughed loudly together.

That is the end of the story. Thank you for reading it. Do not forget to leave a commet, guys J See you in the next posts!

Netiquette

Hi Guys! I have read the article about Netiquette. What is Netiquette? Netiquette or network etiquette is a set of rules for behaving properly online. I have learnt about ten rules of Netiquette and I found three new things which I will discuss now.

First, Rule 1: Remember the human. “When you communicate through cyberspace – via email or discussion groups – your words are written. And chances are they’re stored somewhere where you have no control over them. In other words, there’s a good chance they can come back to haunt you.” That taught me to be careful when I write anything in cyberspace because the recipients of my message can save or forward it to another people. I do not have control over where it goes. Our words can kill us anytime if we are not careful.

Second, Rule 4: Respect other people’s time and bandwidth. We are not the center of cyberspace. Do not expect instant responses if you ask some questions to people, although you need them. Do not assume that all readers will agree or care about your arguments. Just wait or ask other people about your questions.

Last, Rule 10: Be forgiving of other people’s mistakes. People will make some mistakes in cyberspace. Maybe it’s a spelling error, a stupid question, or an unnecessarily long answer. It’s normal because everyone was a network newbie once. Respect it kindly. If it’s a minor error, you may no need to say anything. But, if you decided to inform someone of a mistake, point it out politely by private email. Do not do that in public and do not be arrogant or self-righteous about it.

That’s all I think. Netiquette is very useful for me. I hope, you can learn anything from here. Thank you for visiting my blog and reading it. Don’t forget to leave a comment for me because your comment can develop my writing skill. See you!
